A message for you

We hope to you will support us in developing the sport of crown green bowls throughout our community. Many of our clubs run coaching sessions for new players and this sport of ours has NO barriers. It doesn't matter how old you are, your sex, race colour or creed, or if you are disabled in any way.

The sport of crown green bowls welcomes you all and everyone who plays the game has an equal chance of beating the best players in the game whilst enjoying the hospitality and friendliness of fellow bowlers. Most bowls is played as a team game usually as part of a league and we have over 30 leagues across the region. We also have many individual competitions for bowlers to test themselves and for spectators to enjoy watching.

The game of crown green bowls is traditionally played during the summer months, due to the popularity of the game we now play all years in just about all weather conditions, and going by this season we even play when the suns shining but not often.

History

We were formed in 1981 when the local clubs, leagues and associations decided that the they were not getting the representation they wanted from the county they then registered with. They applied to the British Crown Green Bowling Association, our National Governing Body, for permission to form a new association to include leagues and associations from Liverpool, the Wirral peninsula, St Helens, Widnes, Crosby & Formby. Currently the county has in the region of 11,000 registered bowlers as well as numerous bowlers who play social bowls. We currently have 31 League & Associations, in which 237 clubs play their competitive bowls.

We are grateful to the founders of the association.
